Have to push very hard on steering wheel to make horn go on '98 Honda

Sometimes it works ,sometimes i have to push really hard to make horn go off.....I know i can't mess around inside the steering wheel because of air bag so does it sound like the horn is bad?...That would be an easy fix..

@acura "i have to push really hard to make horn go off" sounds like the horn button. Sad thing here is, it's part of the airbag assembly. You can either replace it with a new part, somewhere in the $1000 dealer item. Or you can try and replace it with a used one (taking chances with SRS equipment is always a bit worrisome. The only other thing I would do, since I am a frugal (cheap) person is to install an external button somewhere on the steering wheel area ;-)

Driver's Airbag Replacement
Removal

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
2. Remove the access panel (A) from the steering wheel, then disconnect the connector between the cable reel 2P (or 4P) connector (B) and driver's airbag 2P (or 4P) connector (C).

3. Remove the covers (A, B) from the steering wheel, then remove the two Torx bolts (C) using a Torx T30 bit. Then remove the
driver's airbag (D).

4. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering wheel.
Installation
1. Place the new driver's airbag (A) in the steering wheel, and secure it with new Torx bolts (B). Install the covers (C).

2. Connect the cable reel 2P (or 4P) connector (A) to the driver's airbag 2P (or 4P) connector (B), then install the access panel (C) on the steering wheel.

3. Connect the battery negative cable.
4. After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation:
Turn the ignition switch ON (II); the SRS indicator light should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off. Make sure both horn buttons work.
5. Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.

Here is the Horn Switch Wiring diagram, just in case you feel "frugal" and are considering a different switch

Thanks for the answer.....Can i just add an external horn button from Autozone or Advance?...Splice it into the horn wires?...Mount it on the dash somewhere?....Did this on an old Chevy truck i have when the horn stopped working...

@acura that is exactly what I'd do. I wouldn't even bother with splicing: Fuse box, switch and then the relay :-)
