Laptop will run on the Battery but won't charge

Accidentally touched a metal peice near the battery connectors and some sparks flew. AFterwwards, the laptop now will not charge. Nor will it run with the power cord connected in without the battery. but if there is power in the battery, it will run. I figured i had a short somewhere. Any ideas?

Hi @kouxiong63568,

You may need the schematics to find out what's wrong.

What is the model number of the laptop and also what is the model number of the motherboard?

Since the laptop seems to be working, except for the non-charging, I'm going to say that you shorted either the charging cicruit on the motherboard, or the battery charge control circuit.

If you know enough to see if the voltage is correct on the connector to the battery, I would suggest that you try that first, before you try a new battery.

I can't help any more than that, though, as I do not have a G-series laptop to look at to give you more details.
