The backplate is shut, and I can't perform maintenance.

Hello,
I have a problem with the laptop overheating causing frequent crashing by the laptop attempting to throttle the CPU.
I want to take the plastic backing of so I can access the fan and such for cleaning in the hopes that the machine will perform slightly better, but unscrewing does nothing to get it off, it seems to be glued in place and I was wondering if anyone here knows of a way I can perform maintenance on my machine without permanently damaging it in the process.

Hi @dafreak

To remove the base cover you need to move it in a clockwise direction and then lift after you have removed all 10 screws.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.42 to view the procedure to remove the base cover.

Take note that there are two different size screws used i.e. M2.5 × 7 mm (6) and M2.5 × 4 mm (4). So make sure that they go back into their respective screw holes when replacing the cover.

hi @jayeff,

unfortunately the answer has not helped me -- I fear that the backplate is glued as neither clockwise turning or the manual you send me make it possible for me to remove the backplate. That backplate behaves as if it is still screwed in and refuses to move no matter my attempts, as such I fear that it is glued shut.

I am not sure if my machine is simply the exception and that the V15-ADA usually does not come with a glued backplate, so I will mark your answer as my chosen solution for those who are looking to remove their backplate.

Hi @dafreak

Not glued but held by clips as well.

Unusual that Lenovo didn't mention it in their manual. Usually they're very comprehensive.

Here's a video that shows how it is opened.

Hi @jayeff,

That has done it, I could finally clean out my Machine, I just used my guitar pick as my prying tool and that has worked well. Thanks for all the tips.
