Won't power up

I have an HP ENVY 17-j053ea which has suddenly decided to stop working. I get the charge socket light on but nothing else. I have tried holding the power button down for 30 seconds with no battery or charger connected. No joy. I have stripped the whole computer down and checked the operation of the power button itself and checked the ribbon to the mainboard. No signs of burnt out components anywhere. I the maintenance manual but no more detailed info. I'll check voltages on the power connector but I guess its dead. Anything else I might look at?

I realize that you did a power refresh but maybe do it again and this time disconnect the RTC battery from the motherboard (see the maintenance manual) as well as the main battery and charger and then press and hold the power button operated for 30 seconds. Reconnect the RTC battery, main battery and charger and check if it turns on. The RTC battery maintains the BIOS settings when the laptop is off and if the BIOS is corrupted for some reason and the laptop doesn't start sometimes it can't be reset to default unless the RTC battery is also disconnected.

When you said that you checked the power button, did you mean that you checked it for continuity when it is operated?

If so have you checked that there is +3V on one side of the power button when the laptop is off?

Not sure re your model but since it has an RTC battery (have you checked the voltage on it i.e. >2.5V) with some laptops that have an RTC battery it supplies the voltage through the power button that starts the power on startup process.

What is the motherboard make and model number e.g. Quanta or DAO perhaps? It may come down to finding the schematics and knowing the motherboard's make and model number may make it easier to find than searching for the laptop's make and model number.
