The charge port in my academy is still working, it's just become so loose the cable won't remain seated even when the tablet it remaining still. I'm struggling to find anything to lead me on a repair path.

I wasn't able to find any information about disassembling or repairing the LeapPad Academy either, but maybe we can still help.
Since we don't know exactly how to open up the back of your LeapPad, how about if you post a picture or two of the bottom side and we'll see if we can figure it out based on how the other LeapPads that do have guides come apart. Most of them are secured with several screws, but some of them have parts and labels that cover the screws that have to be removed first.

If you are able to figure out how to open it on your own, then go ahead and take some close up photos of the charging port that's giving you trouble and we'll see if we can puzzle it out.

I’d try a different cable just in case the one you’re trying to use has damage.
