Craftsman 917 riding mower won't stay running
I just put in a new battery. The mower starts fine. When the clutch is released, the mower stalls. Any solutions?

It sounds like you mat need to pull the carburetor off and clean out the calcium and trash that is in your diaphragm and your fuel line. I have run into this issue before and is most likely your problem. Hope this helps.

Are you saying that when the clutch is disengaged the motor shuts off?

@pcahill doe sit stall when you increase the throttle to rev the engine higher? If not then it is most likely not the fuel supply. If it does it could be a carb issue. I would check the safety switches for function i.e. continuity and wiring.
