How to smooth peeled aluminum

I dropped my MacBook and there is now a sharp piece on the corner. What tool would you use to “sand” it down so it doesn’t rip up my palms?

Thanks!

Hi Marc,

I would try a fingernail file that is not very course. They come n many different styles and flexibility. Start very fine and work up until you find the one that removes these sharp edges to your liking. Hope this helps.

Ouch that looks bad!

Cutting off or banging down the flap is a start but that still leaves a hole in the case and that corner is still rough. So I can see two options here:

  • Strip the system down so someone with a TIG can weld a patch in the void
  • Replace the uppercase: Space Grey - Apple P/N 661-13161 Silver - Apple P/N 661-13162 (about $400 used)

If you patch use a small hand grinder Dremel Tool to smooth out the area while it won’t look the same it should be good enough and you’ll prevent anything entering. Epoxy won’t hold up but thats an option.
