This is tricky! Apple uses a variable speed fan.

So if you power the motor alone it will just run too hard and seize up. You will need to connect up the tachometer to some speed control logic to control the power to the fan.

@beanman56 - Built a Variable speed power controller circuit, but by the time you buy all the needed parts it will end up being more expensive than getting a small USB Powered Desk Fan, besides these small muffin fans are designed to flow air across a heat sink fin, not to blow at you or suck the fumes from soldering away.
