Possible to replace my 2.0 GHz Core2 Duo to i5 or i7?

I have an 20" iMac (MA876LL) that has a 2.0 GHz Core2 Duo CPU. Can I upgrade to an i5 or i7 processor?

Hi Calvin. I had the same idea one month ago. I own an iMac 20' 2008 2.66GHz. I've already upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB.

So my CPU was an Intel Core 2 Duo E8335 at 2.66GHz, socket P. And the only upgrade that was possible and easy was to replace it by a CPU with the same specifications, with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8435 at 3.06GHz, actually the one in the iMac 24' 2008, it is the same socket so I'm pretty sure there will be no problem.

I managed to get one from Ebay for $90, I'm still waiting for it.

I guess you have the iMac 2007, so your CPU is a T7300. Here is the specifications for this one CPU-World.

You can see the CPU of the same socket that could upgrade the T7300. I think you can upgrade with all the Txxxx of the same socket, the best one will be a T9900, I'm not sure about the Exxxx because I don't know what VT, ESS and TBT stand for, but if it is possible, I'll have my E8335 remaining.

Anyone can confirm this ? And if the Exxxx would work ?

+ So far I've found "same socket" upgrades work but not all these processors are removable.

Thanks Mayer. So Calvin, what you could do is post a question to ask if somebody knows if the CPU of the iMac 2007 is socketed (removable) or soldered. I know that the one on iMac 2008 are.

Btw, the Txxxx seems much more expensive than the Exxxx, why ?

so ben was it succesful?from cor 2 duo to i7?/i5?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jhorieboi - Sorry, not possible, Ben installed a Core 2 Duo E8435 3.06 GHz to replace his Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz E8335. The i3, i5 & i7 all use a different socket & require different bus logic.
