Revamped version of the iPhone 3G with faster processing speeds. Repair of this device is similar to the 3G, and requires simple screwdrivers and prying tools. Model A1303 / 8, 16 or 32 GB capacity / black or white plastic back.

How to test a fake/chinese iPhone Wall Charger?

Hi

i use to buy and sell iphones, many of them came whit no accesories at all, so i used to buy those fake chinese wall chargers for cheap, i was facing many issues lately whit those chargers, they do not charge on 3G iphones, or instead of charge it drains battery when connected, and cant charge 3GS or 4 Iphones.

But yesterday i plugged a beautifull iphone 3GS 16GB, and when connected to one of those chargers iPhone power off and never came back, i tried replacing the system board on a well know iphone parts and nothing, so board its kind of fried, i checked fuses and they seem to be ok.

Now, my question, its there any effective way to test those chargers, anything like an application on computer to test voltage and data- and data+ values from USB port ?

My multimeter always read 5.1V to 5.4V on chargers but the thing is how to test data from USB

Thank you all in advance.

If you really want to test a charger, you should subject it to charging conditions, and monitor voltage over time.

Cheap chargers are usually nothing more than a transformer rectifier with a few capacitors thrown in to smooth the output. This can lead to a relatively "dirty" output with microsecond power spikes or drops when the current exceeds what the capacitor buffer can handle.

If I remember correctly USB +5VDC is rated to 500ma or one half of an ampere. Ohms law suggests a 5W 10ohm resistor. If you have an Oscilloscope handy probe the chargers output under load and set the scale to one volt per division or less, and click through the time ranges. The trace should stay steady! If not the devices may be rejecting the input.

+ Besides an oscilloscope (which not may of us have), is there another way to test?
