MacBook Pro 2012 won't power on, fans spin for a moment.

I have a unibody MacBook Pro 2012 (I have removed the hard drive) and it will not power on. No light is on the MagSafe connector, although the fans will spin for a moment when it is plugged in with or without the battery. No display output, the fans just click on and then go straight off. Does anybody have any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

What is the MagSafe condition? Is the cord not damaged?

Is the body connector in bad shape? Clean insulator or burn’t pin?

You may need a new charger or try cleaning

Here’s the source for a replacement Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

Please don’t buy a knockoff charger as they tend to damage your system!

Hi,

The MagSafe charger is almost brand new and works with my 2010 MBP. Even though the light isn't chowing, I believe that It is sending the device power because when I plug it in every 5 seconds or so the fan spins momentarily. The same happens if the charger is disconnected and I try to turn on the MacBook from its battery.

Thanks

@Harrison Bristow - The middle pin is then-wire comm link between the charger and the system. How does the systems MagSafe connector look?

You may need to replace the DC-In board MacBook Pro Unibody 13" and 15" MagSafe DC-In Board following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement to Step 26 While you're at it make sure your logic board is OK.

@danj The connector looks fine to me. I am getting a 2009 15" MBP later with a known working MagSafe connector. Are they interchangeable? I have taken out the logic board and it looks fine to me, nothing looks burnt or out of the ordinary.

Thanks

@Harrison Bristow - COMPATIBILITY:

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody A1278 Mid 2009 to Mid 2012

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody A1286 Mid 2009 to Mid 2012

If you are getting the older 2009 the answer is no the connector is not compatible,

Sounds like your charging logic is damaged! That a common issue when using a knockoff charger ;-{ You'll then need to find someone with the deeper micro-soldering skills and access to the needed parts or you'll need to replace the logic board.

@danj Just replaced the MagSafe connector. It now shows orange as it should, but there is the same issues with the fan. The front light also blinks on and off now.

Thanks
