Is it possible to replace screen & True Tone, Touchbar etc still work?

I need to replace my 13 inch 2019 A2159 Macbook screen, and I would like to try and do it myself to cut costs. I’ve read countless times of people online who did this and then afterwards the True Tone didn’t work, or the brightness sensor, or the Touch Bar stayed on permanently etc…

Some people say these things only work with the original screen connected to it’s original device and that Apple has made it somehow that once you connect a new screen you lose some of the functionality of these things..

I’d just like to ask if anyone knows if that is actually true? Or if I buy the correct display from Ebay and install everything correctly, is it actually possible that everything will work just as it did before??

The problem is the source of the part! Amazon, eBay, Craigs List are not the best places to buy parts as many are rejects or intercepted before being programed. I avoid buying displays from these sites as you often can’t get your money back or the seller disappears!

So your only option is going to Apple to get a known pedigree of the part (from Apple) or go to a someone who recovers parts from recycled systems. Newer systems like yours can be tough as the there are just not that many being recycled.

Your in luck! iFixit has the part! MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Mid 2018-Mid 2019) Display Assembly Give them a call and ask your question to them directly. I use iFixit for parts and have had a good experience!

For reference here’s another site I also go to TheBookYard - 13” MacBook Pro Retina Early 2019, 2 Thunderbolt as you can see they just don’t have any available right now.
