No power doesn't start up

Hello

I saw an advertisement on Ebay for a Ipod Touch 3G 8gb faulty. According to the seller the Ipod doesn't startup. I wonder if i exchange the battery will it come back to life or do you think something else is defective?

thanks

Those are big depends. It could be anything from a bad battery to a bad dock connector, water damaged logic board, etc. or may be it just needs a reset... So it is difficult to assess the situation until you get more (and accurate) history as well as to dissect the iPod. I also don't think the iPod touch 3rd gen comes in an 8GB version, but 32+64 only....

Hello oldturkey03

Its very odd because i've seen alot of Ipod touches 3rd gen 8gb on Ebay, are they fake :-S?

Anyway...according to the seller it's not water damaged, but how do you reset it when it's dead? Do you think 30$ is a fair price for an faulty non powering Ipod 3G 8gb(?) I will buy an battery from Ebay for 4$ and try to replace it with a new one.

It could be a good deal, if that is all that is wrong with it. It also depends how handy you are. Worst case scenario, and having gotten stung a few times myself, think replacing the logic board. Price it out, check the guides and see if you think you could handle the task (not that I am doubting you) and if it still looks like a good deal, go for it. Just like my job, expect the worst and hope for the best :-) As for the 8GB, I just checkd http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353#iPod_... again and they do not list an 8GB. Don't think that everybody would be selling a face, just odd. May be some sort of typo :-)

ah, here is a bit of clarification "Because the 8GB third-generation Touch (shown here) is technically identical to the second-generation model, we've assigned it a slightly lower rating than the more capable 32GB and 64GB versions."

Bit more here The 3rd gen has a faster processor, comes with mic and remote headphones and has the built in voice control and voice recorder. from http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-touch/250... best bet would be to get the model number from the back Pod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

Haha well i considers myself pretty handy :p I will definitly give it a go and hope for the best, first off i'll try to exchange the battery. I couldn't seem to find any logic board for Ipod Touch 3g on Ebay thought, will do some more research, i only hope it doesn't cost as much as a new Ipod LOL.

Also thanks for clarifying about the 3g 8gb modell :) much appreciated

iPod touch 8GB "3rd gen" refers to the 2nd gen touch models released together with the 3rd 32GB and 64GB ones. Commonly known as 2nd/3rd model. Hope it helped.
