Repair information on hard drives or hard disks. Hard drives are magnetic data storage devices. They are used in most desktop, laptop, and server due to their low cost and high data density.

HP Touchsmart 600-1100T Hard Drive Upgrade? SOS!

My boss has one of those Touchsmart 600-1100 desktops from the 2010’s and he has a plethora of external hard drives to store all his movies and po…..um….movies…lol, and He wants to be able to consolidate a bit. This old pc has a ST350041 8AS SCSI Hard drive. its 500GB. He wants a 6TB but is that even reasonable? Hes not very computer literate and thinks all hard drives will fit all motherboards and they all cost $50-$120. Anyway i can get him at least 4TB? Even if its a little more? I’ll install it myself. I feel like i’m considering putting an FTL Drive on a horse.

Also, these only take DDR3 ram right and only up to 8GB, right?

Hi,

Here are the specifications for the PC that may help.

You are correct that the max support memory is 8GB as long as there is a 64-bit OS installed, otherwise it is only the standard 4GB for 32-bit

As regards to HDD capacity, it depends on what the BIOS is configured for which the user can’t alter. The specifications show 1TB as the largest capacity but you may get 2TB and can only try and check if more will work. It is sata II i.e. 3GB/sec

Thanks! How do i know if i can get 2TB? and it is the 64bit.....and thats....3.5"? Sorry, I used to be good with computers back When Everquest was new, but that was a lot of malted hops and bong resin ago.

Also It says that this thing has the Nvidia G200 ......but what it tells me is that its a Geforce9400. Difference?

@Dr. Fairfax Thunderchild III

If you have an OS installed on a HDD already working in the computer it will be shown in there e.g. if Win 10 go to Settings > System> About > Device specifications > system type.

If there is no OS then install a 64-bit OS and then you can have 8GB e.g. Win 10 64-bit OS and NOT Win 10 32-bit OS. It is the OS that determines the amount of ram it can use and not the computer and 32-bit only use 4GB max.

As far as 2TB all you can do is connect it and then check in BIOS if the HDD is detected or not.

If it is detected by BIOS it should work if not it won't.

The same with 3TB or more but I'd would be surprised if they did work, but you never know you can only try and see.

The Nvidea G200 is the chipset that is on the motherboard. This chip interfaces between the CPU and the motherboard.

The Nvidia Geforce 9400 is probably the GPU which is the graphics adapter
