Screen going black intermittently and now won't turn on

My wife spilled a small amount of water on her keyboard, She did not wait long and turned it back on. It worked a little at first and then the screen would go black, turn back on, go blank. if you let it sit off for a while and then back on the screen would work for a longer period before going black and then on and off. Now it will not respond to turning on at all. Would a top case replacement remedy this? I am not sure the cause, but thought water damage to the keyboard is the issue.
