Fourth generation 2-In-1 convertible laptop released on 2015. Succeeding the Yoga 3 Pro, the Lenovo Yoga 900 (also known as the Yoga 4 Pro) sports a durable 360° watchband hinge, an ultra thin chassis, and extended battery life.

Yoga 900 will not start unless I disconnect and reconnect the battery

I replaced the battery on the Yoga 900 ISK2… and now the notebook only starts after I disconnect and reconnect the battery after shutdown. This is true only for shutdown situation. Sleep and wake from sleep works. It is the same situation when connected to power or not. I also tried putting back the original batter and same behavior.

Here is it in order:

  • connect the battery - I can start the notebook pressing on the start button
  • reboot works… will reboot without a problem
  • shutdown works… but the I can not start the notebook again… the button to start will not work
  • physically disconnecting and reconnecting the battery… I can start it again via the button

All cases I found with the same behavior (and other notebooks) did not have an answer.

Any hints what this could be?

Likely either a battery problem or an issue with the connection on the motherboard. Take a close look at the port on the motherboard (use phone camera to zoom if needed). Do all of the pins, plates or whatever it uses look straight and uniform? If you still can’t resolve the issue, I know that a lot of repair shops offer free quotes and examinations so you can find the issue!

Thank you! Will look at this tomorrow with better lighting and report on success. :)

Explored in details all of the pins (8 in this case)... all straight, no touching, no "dirt" between them that could cause a short... Overnight I left it on sleep (and attached on power)... had to disconnect and reconnect the battery even in that case to start it today.
