Can I replace the i5 logic board with an i7 from early 2011?

Hi all,

I’m looking to replace the logic board on my early 2011 MBP with an i7 logic board from the same era. please let me know if:

a - this is possible, and

b - it’s worth it!

Many thanks in advance!

Jimmy

See if the following upgrades give you your desired speed boost results first.

Yes the i7 logic board will work.

The first upgrades I would do are

  1. Install a backward compatible SATA II SSD drive along with the hard drive IR cable from the 2012 model.
  2. Max out the RAM

Hi mayer, have got a SSD alongside 16gb of ram installed already and am still finding my Logic Pro is still overloading at some points. This is my last upgrade to the MBP before getting a beast of an iMac!

thanks for the response!

Consider a 2010-2012 Mac Pro instead. With a PCI SSD they are awesome.
