Toshiba Portege won't turn on

Toshiba Portege R700-10E will no longer boot, the DC IN indicator is flashing/blinking for 8 counts then stops for 2 before repeating.

I have tried most general reset solutions, to no luck.

Sometimes after a reset and putting back the battery and attaching the charger, the DC IN will turn green and the Battery indicator will turn on with an orange light, indicating it is charging. However even after leaving the laptop for a period to charge, it will not turn on and after pressing the power button the DC IN will go back to the blinking orange and the Battery light will go off.

I have tried using a different compatible charger but this also seems to do nothing.

I have seen guides on interpreting blink codes but this is quite confusing to me.

From the rest of my research it seems to either be an issue with the charger or the motherboard. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.

I’m very sorry. It looks like you did a bit of work yourself. If your battery isn’t 100% dead then there’s more work to be done. Typically a system will boot and run, albeit slowly without a battery at all. Unfortunately the blink codes are probably coming from a “sub processor”, aka the charging system. That usually happens when that’s the only system that is working. Taking out the battery and trying to get anything will tell us all more.

Hi + thanks for reply.

With the battery removed and the AC adapter connected, the DC IN turns green. Upon pressing the power button, the DC IN goes back to the orange blinking.

With both the battery and the AC adapter connected, the DC IN is green and the Battery indicator is orange (no blinking)

I have tried leaving the laptop to charge like this, previously the Battery would blink orange or turn off after a short period. The DC IN would remain green.

Yesterday I left it to charge for longer and finally the Battery light turned green. However the laptop still won't boot (I tried to turn it on with the adapter still connected, not sure if that was the right thing to do, I was unsure of even trying to turn it on after seeing progress)

Now I have the laptop at the green DC IN + orange Battery state (after removing battery, connecting adapter then disconnecting, putting back battery and reconnecting adapter)

After a short wait, the Battery is green. Will wait for reply before trying to turn on again.

Missed from last reply but I haven't taken the laptop apart to look at the battery/the problem that way, mainly due to unsuitable and limited knowledge.

I read trying to re-seat the ram modules, no luck with it myself, same problem here, just orange light. After opening up the laptop, for a screen issue, before it was running (while opening it i had removed them).

Maybe clean them with some isopropanol alcohol (or similar). Also removing ram, hdd/ssd, battery, cmos, pressing power 30 secs to drain as much electricity from the device (Bleeding it i think it is called, or draining ??) , and leaving it overnight (or day, or sometime else if you will) can help sometimes.
