Computer doesn’t power on at all.

Hello,

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) doesn’t power on at all. Completely dead. No sound, no lights, no fan or drive noise, black screen. All four hardware diagnostic lights are off. Could the power supply or logic board be damaged? Need assistance trying to figure out what’s wrong. Thanks for any feedback.

Before trying anything else, plug in another electrical device into the wall socket you are using for the computer, just to make sure it’s not a problem with the wall outlet/fuse.

If the other device works using the same outlet, it sounds to me like a power supply problem. (I’m pretty new to repairs, so don’t take my words for 100%)

@eke0909 - You're on the right track! But I would still check the systems power cord, using a another cord. Some cords have a fuse which could be blown.

While not obvious your buildings wiring could be an issue! Like a mis-wired outlet. A surge or lighting strike getting through as the grounding wire is not well bonded at the breaker panel to physical ground or not even wired at the outlet.

Hello,

I’ve tried several wall sockets and the computer doesn’t power on.

I tried using two different power cords and the computer still doesn’t power on.

I also disconnected the power cord, pressed and held down the power button for 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and then tried turning on the computer and nothing.

I also unplugged all the accessories.

I also checked to make sure the display’s brightness is all the way up.

Like I mentioned in my first post, no sound from the hard drive, no fan noise, no startup chime, no lights, screen is black , all four hardware diagnostic lights are off when power cord is plugged in.

Could it be the power supply or logic board? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

@ggitw21

As I mentioned in my answer, then I think it's most likely a faulty power supply.
