Caller can't hear me, but I can hear them

I have a Samsung Galaxy s9 and shortly after getting it I began having problems with people hearing me over phone calls. I can hear them fine, but I also get a bad echo of my own voice when I talk (worse when I use speakerphone). I can use headphones and they can hear me then, and if I am using a video app like Google Duo they can hear me as well. I have tried my SIM card in a different phone and it worked fine, and I can use record videos and audio on my phone and hear just fine. Tried restarting in safe mode and that didn’t fix it either. Anyone know what the issue might be or other possible ways to fix it?

I have a Galaxy A71 and for the last week have had this issue. When I use ear phones or if I'm in the car and it's connected to Bluetooth it works but if I use the handset on its own, any calls, messenger video, duo no one can hear me. I'm at a lose ?‍♀️?

Hi @brownee ,

Try wiping the cache partition in case there is a data problem with the Phone app that is causing the problem.

I recently experience issues with my S9+ where callers are unable to hear me but I can hear them. When I turn my speaker on, then they can hear me and if I turn off the speaker (after turning it on) they can hear me as well. It happens to different callers. I have tried wiping cache and clearing data in Apps>SIM Toolkit, but the fix is only temporary and the problem will come back after a while. I have also tried wiping cache partition as mentioned above but it doesn’t help.

I then tried deep cleaning using ‘CCleaner’ App (free) and so far after 2 days, all seems to be well. Hope this will help those experiencing similar problem.

Hi @Ayse Jones

Is the phone in a case at all?

If so try removing it from the case and check if you can now be heard.

If not use a magnifying glass and a strong light to visually inspect the voice inlet hole on the bottom edge of the phone to see if it is blocked with lint etc.

If it is or you’re not sure, do not use a pin or probe to try and clear it as you may damage the internal microphone which is behind the hole. Try using a vacuum cleaner and see if this removes any obstruction.

If still no good then the phone will have to be opened and checked as there may be a problem with the internal microphone. There is another microphone in the phone which is used when using the phone in handsfree (loudspeaker) mode.

If you just purchased it, take it back in to the store you purchased it for an exchange or refund.

Otherwise, if you call in for tech support, they will more then likely suggest a series of steps to troubleshoot and possibly diagnose the issue, one of the biggest being a factory reset on the phone. This is my best suggestion without knowing any more.

Simply back up all your data, photos/videos/texts and calls via Google Drive, Google Photos, SMS Backup (app on the Google Play Store), and restore it once the process is done. But of course, first check that the issue is fixed when you do a factory reset.

Good luck!
