Why are no buttons working?(except one)

I’ve been having some trouble with my controller the only button that works is the PS button. This happened in game while I was switching modes I tried to back out and could’t and then my controller stopped responding. My best hunch is a software glitch. Also, my buddy online said he couldnt hear me anymore but he kept hearing what sounded like morse code.
