Can't connect cable to iPod Nano 3rd generation?

I have a problem with the cable connecting my Ipod Nano 3rd generation to the PC - it simply won't fit in the slot in the Ipod any more. Not sure if the cable has died or if the slot in the Ipod itself has got damaged in some way. Is this something that is likely to be easily fixible?

Not really anything like an easy fix. I would try a different cable first. If that does not work then it is the dock connector on the logic board. This would require some very fine soldering.
