Announced in August 2017, the Galaxy Note8 is the successor to the recalled Galaxy Note7. The Note8 was made available to the public for purchase in September of 2017.

Can I replace the battery with a battery from a galaxy note 9

i recently got a galaxy note 8 as a hand-me down from my dad and i can't stand the battery life

my plan is to replace it with a battery from a galaxy note 9

here are the battery specs:

the dimensions of the original battery are: 88 x 39 x 5 (mm)

and the dimensions of the note 9 battery are: 87.7 mm x 41.5 mm x 6 mm

we are talking about 2.7 millimeters of difference

do you guys think its possible??

Hi @matfrags

I love the idea as I know that Samsung batteries tend to be cross compatible.

Your biggest issue unfortunately is that Samsung significantly changed the connector location between those generations so it will be practically impossible to connect the Note 9 battery once it's installed…

My recommendation in this case is to stick to an original quality replacement battery that you know will work so you don't need to open this phone again once it's repaired and working

Hope this helps!

I did notice that the connector on the note 8 battery was on the top right corner while on the note 9 it is on the left corner but that should be an easy thing to fix by flipping the battery over

While that might make connecting the battery possible, you will need to fold the cable very tightly which will definitely put in a crease. This could wear down and snap over time like a paperclip being bent too many times which could cause all kinds on battery unreliability.

well it's worth a try I guess

did you get it at last?

A Note 9 battery may fit the connectors, but it is on the other side of the board. If you flipped the battery over to connect it, that would put a crease in the cable, and is therefore not advisable.

@leo52700 do you all remember the Note 7? Do you remember why it blew up? Had nothing to do with the battery but everything to do with the phone casing having been to small. 3mm in size may not sound like much but it's enough to cause the same issue. Get the right battery so you don't suffer the same fate.
