It is soldered onto the motherboard, just like the base model. The last mini to have a removable CPU was the A1176.

I think you misinterpreted my post. I was stating that for $100 the poster could simply select to have the i7 in his/her system instead of the i5. The upgrade to the i7 is $100, hence my post. See here: http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html
