Rear Camera & Flashlight Not Working

I realize there are a lot of topics on this issue, but I’m looking for some information specific to an iPhone 8 Plus.

I acquired an iPhone 8 Plus that was an absolute MESS.

I had to replace the back housing, screen, charging port, battery, and numerous brackets/screws.

Surprisingly I was actually able to get it working. However, the rear camera only shows a black screen and the flashlight doesn’t work.

I replaced the mute/volume/power flex cable which did not fix the flashlight.

Am I understanding correctly that if the rear cameras are broken, then the flashlight function will not work either? Just trying to figure out of it’s worth purchasing replacement rear cameras or if this could be a logic board issue.

Thank you in advance.

I can only speak for the iPhone 8 at this point, but I have no reason to believe it would be different for the iPhone 8 Plus.

The camera and flash ARE synced on an iPhone 8. If the camera isn’t working, neither will the flash.

One more note regarding iPhone 8: There is one screw on the logic board that is covered by a rubber pad. You need to scrape/remove that rubber pad to access the screw. In my situation, some of that rubber residue ended up blocking the camera contact on the logic board which prevented it from securely connecting. If anyone is experiencing similar issue after disassembling an iPhone 8, this is worth checking out.

I'm having the same problem with an aftermarket housing. I think the problem is caused by the standoff screw which secures the cameracover.

I think it makes part of a circuit. On the camera bracket there's a metal ring missing. Does anyone know if the camera housing should be grounded to the housing?

Hey!!! I had the same problem afther a frame replacement.

The problem I had is that the screw that is just above the camera connector, made a short to ground since it touched the metal of said connector, I removed the screw and it began to work.

This solved the issue for me after trying to find a solution for over an hour. That %#*@ screw...

Do you have a spare camera ?

I know that on iphone 6-7 backcamera and flash has a connection, by replacing the back cammera the flash will work.

I don't have a spare camera, but think I'll have to gamble and purchase one.

What is even more bizarre is I also have an iPhone 8 which I also replaced the housing and screen on. I know for a fact that the rear camera worked. This morning I sold it, the buyer restored their own backup, and now has the exact same issue with the camera/flash.

This can't just be a coincidence...

You might have some problem with the camera circuit that causes that issues. I also solve those issues to many this may help you to fix that issues.

This is super unrealistic that anyone would actually do. 9/10 times it's just the offending screw. Look at the answer above and remove that screw. Then re-test.
