when i turn on the camera, the lens zooms out and immediately retracts, and a “zoom error” message appears. How do i fix this, or can i?

This error happens when the lens is unable to extend, usually due to some sort of blockage. If it’s happening with nothing in front of the lens, there could be something inside the camera interfering with the mechanism or the motor could be having problems. You could try manually twisting pulling the lens and then powering on to see if it frees any blockage, but if that doesn’t work it may need to be serviced professionally or replaced.
