The Ryobi P202 part of the Ryobi One+ series. This model is an 18-volt cordless 1/2 inch drill, and is bright green and grey in color. It has a built in level gauge and a two gear ratio switch on the top of the drill, along with a direction switch, magnetic tray, and drill bit clip.

Why does the drill no longer work, but the led blinks 5 times?

I used the drill for one full charge, then removed the battery and charged it.  After installing the battery, the drill no longer works.  The LED light on the front end blinks 5 times when depressing the trigger, but will not blink again until I remove the battery, reinstall and depress the trigger again.  I’ve tried 4 different Ryobi batteries all with the same result.

Hi,

How old is the drill?

According to the manual there is a 3 year manufacturer’s warranty on the drill.

If yours is still within the warranty period, follow the directions in the warranty statement on how to make a claim for a manufacturer’s warranty repair or replacement.

The drill is only 4 months old. I contacted Ryobi, and they wanted me to ship it to them, to California with a proof of purchase (which I don't have.) Also I'd have to ship it from Hawaii, where I live, which isn't exactly cheap. It's a really crappy situation. I expect better quality from Ryobi. I've never had a drill just die after one use. The thing still looks brand spank'n new. So I either replace it or fix it myself. I would just like to know what the 5 blinks on the LED mean. Maybe from there I could troubleshoot it. Does anyone know at all?

It may be a battery circuit problem i.e you still can check its voltage is ok which means the volatge of the battery cells but still there is a circuit inside the battery which i think the reason of this, i have a similar problem as i made an external battery pack for my drill in case of emergency but when i tried it it made the drill work for 3 seconds and stopped and the led is blinking but when i put the original battery it works fine

Today i tried to connect an 8 kilo ohm Resistor between the negative of the battery pack and the third terminal called TV then connect it to the drill and it works
