No Power But Magsafe Turns Green and will Charge Battery

Hello everyone I am new to these forums and am new to fixing Macs all together so please bare with me. I bought this MacBook for the purpose to learn the hardware and how to fix them.

The problem is the macbook will not power on. The magsafe will turn green when plugged in and when a good battery that needs charged is inserted the magsafe churns amber. I tried a known working topcase but no power and I have tried to power the machine by the board itself and no go. Is the logic board dead? Did I miss anything? I also tried a good stick of ram in each slot and still no go. I do not see any evidence of liquid damage on the top of the logic board.

Thank You in advance for the reply. This is a late 2006 model.

Justin

I received the new (used) board yesterday and turned out to be a core duo not a core 2 duo but still works and the laptop has life once again. I had to buy a new heatsink yesterday because mine was a 3 wall connector and this older board has the 4 wall connector. Yes I did look at the picture that the auction had up which had the 3 wall connector on the board. However it was not the same board I received.

$102.50 is still a bargain even for a core duo. Will you keep it ?

Yes I am going to keep the board. I talked with the seller and he made it right.

I just bought it on a ebay auction. The seller had no feedback yet so I think people were scared to bid on it.

Disconnect everything off the logic board, keep only the magsafe power board connected and try again to power the machine from the two power pads. Plug headphones to the sound jack to hear the starting chime if any. If you still have no activity then the logic board is probably dead. You can buy a used one for about $200 (maybe less for a 2006 model) off ebay.

Thank You for your response. I did unhook everything except the fan and hit the pads and nothing happened. I bought a used board for $102.50 last night. I will update when it comes in and I get it into the machine.
