Make sure your screwdriver bit fits all the way down into the screw. For tight screws I like this driver because the diameter of the handle is twice the size of standard drivers and allows much more torque to be applied: crwdns2937315:0IF145-028crwdne2937315:0

If it stil won't open after changing screw driver simply leave a single drop of Mobil or lubricants type things even you may use kerosene oil too. It will remove all the junk and rust and you will be able to open it easily.
