The Kindle Fire, Fire, or Amazon Fire is an Android-based media tablet by Amazon with a multi-touch color display. Repair requires only screwdrivers and prying tools.

Kindle Fire not charging while turned on

My son’s Kindle Fire 7 Kids Edition is not charging properly. The battery died and kindle turned off. I plug it in to charge, it indicates it is charging, then the kindle powers on. the Kindle shows 1% battery but suddenly it is not charging anymore. And it does not indicate that it is connected to the charger. I left it plugged in overnight, but it did not charge - it only indicates 1% battery. Once I unplug the charger, the kindle soon turns off. I have gone through this cycle for days now - Kindle only charges when it is off, once it powers on, it stops charging.

I have tried using different USB cables to charge the Tablet. But same results. It charges while tablet is off, but as soon as tablet comes on, it stops charging. While its on and connected to the charger, Kindle does not charge, neither does it turn off. Only turns off when I unplug charger. How can I get past this and get the tablet to charge again?

When connected to PC its same thing.

How do I fix this problem please?

Hi @ita21 ,

It sounds as though there may be a problem with the battery not holding its’ charge.

Looking at this webpage it seems as though this tablet is a quite recent release.

It also states that there is a 2 year warranty on the tablet.

If this is the tablet that you’re asking about and you’ve had it for less than 2 years, consult the warranty statement that came with the tablet, (or use the link above) as to what to do to make a claim for a warranty repair or replacement.

Update (09/09/2018)

Hi @ita21 ,

I agree, that changing the battery will probably resolve the problem.

Here’s a link to a video that shows how to replace the battery in your particular model Kindle.

Replacement batteries are available online. Just search for Kindle Fire 5th Gen. battery to get results for suppliers of the part.

Thanks @jayeff for your quick response.

I have had the tablet for over two years unfortunately so can't make a claim for a warranty repair. Its the Fire (5th Generation) G000 released in 2015.

Guess I need to replace the battery then?

Hey, next time it turns on keep it on the charger and turn the tablet off it should continue to charge. Once you feel it’s charged enough turn it back on:)
