The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is a graphing calculator released in 2004. It includes a USB port, pre-loaded software, APPS, storage, and a removable front and back case.

Calculator won't turn on

My TI-84 Plus calculator will not turn on. It is one year old, and seems like new, but won’t turn on. Any suggestions? I can’t find a reset button on it.

This worked for mine. My 84 SE had been put in storage for years after graduating college. Family needed it so I searched it out of storage to find it wouldn't turn on. After replacing batteries I came here and tried this. It worked. When it came back on it showed ram cleared but still seems to compute just fine. Thank you for this

wire was not making contact this fixed it thanks

A NOTE: When I opened it I could see that the contact wore through the copper, so as you suggested I lined it up on fresh plating but it didn't work.

for anyone who sees this wear but is still struggling:

1) CLEAN the copper and scrub it

2) raise the contacts up towards you so they apply more pressure to the copper plating.

THANK YOU ANDY

My TI is 20 years old, and would not turn on this morning. I feared it was dead. :-( Did as you said, and it is working like new. Thanks!

You should probably refer to this guide. ;)

As for the reset button, there is none on the regular TI 84 Plus. You need to remove one of the AAA batteries, then remove the backup battery. Hold [ON] for 10 seconds then reinsert the batteries. This should clear your RAM. You can also refer to this video Advanced Calculator Recovery, Diagnostics, and Prevention! If you would like a video representation of the guide.

  1. Take out the AAA batteries.
  2. Hold the on button for 10-20 seconds
  3. Put the batteries back in
  4. Press the on button again
  5. Then it should come back on as “RAM CLEARED”.

I think the length of time can vary quite a bit. For my calculator it was closer to 30 seconds. So, if it doesn't work the first time, try holding the button longer before re-inserting the batteries.
