Why is my MacBook Pro getting hot?

There’s a metal component on the logic board that appears to be getting hot.

I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the heat sink.

This has started happening after I spilled liquid over the keyboard. I then opened it up and cleaned the logic board and all the parts.

I am considering replacing the I/O ports/boards.

Can anyone point out why this could be happening or what that metal component is?

I believe it’s the metal covering the RAM.

Update (08/24/2018)

Still trying to solve this one.

The RAM appears to be getting very hot.

How do I remove the metal protectors?

Hey chrono

If water damage has occurred then you may be in the process of shorting a component out. You should take the lid off the back of the MacBook and remove all the covers from all the parts. You will need to clean and let dry al the covers and components that could have been at risk. If overheating or burning is occuring this is a part on the Logic Board being damaged.

It’s been several months since the accident happened. Do you think the cleaning process can still be done?

Do you have any guides/tutorials on taking covers off from the parts?

Will I need to do a stronger cleaning process than isopropyl alcohol?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Not necessarily. If the accident was minor isopropyl alcohol will work just fine, you may need to take every piece off to clean. They should be screwed in to the Logic Board itself with small torx screws.

Thanks for your response!

Do you think it's fair to say that the heat think is working fine? Not %100 how to diagnose the heat sink.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Yes it is, if the heat sink wasn't working right the MacBook wouldn't run since the sensors would shut the Mac down
