won't turn back on after being turned off

I turned off my tablet; it won't turn back on...was working perfectly when I turned it off. I couldn't remember my password, so turned it off and was planning to press volume and ON button to reset, but it just looks DEAD!!! noting works ; tried to charge it, the charge light doesn't even come on.( It was almost fully charged when I turned it off_
