My phone keeps touching things by itself and I'm not even touching it.

This has been happening a lot lately and it is getting really frustrating. I haven't changed my screen or anything and I've had my Moto G4 for about a year now. I haven't dropped it from high up or anything and the phone is in great condition. Somehow, most of the time I pick up my phone to use it, the phone will start touching and opening random apps or start typing things when I'm trying to send a text. Can someone please help. I'll appreciate it.

@boiiii start by making sure you back-up all of your files. Then do a hard reset. Here are some instructions:

It is highly recommended that you complete a backup of the device information and disable Device Protection before proceeding with the steps in this tutorial.

With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume down key.

Note: If Device Protection is not disabled, the login credentials for the Google account currently associated with the device will be needed to set up the device after the reset.

With the Volume down key held down, press and hold the Power key.

Release both keys when the Android screen appears.

Use the Volume keys to scroll to RECOVERY MODE.

Press the Power key to select RECOVERY MODE.

When the No command message appears, press and hold the Power key.

While holding the Power key, press and release the Volume Up key.

Note: Release the Power key when the Android Recovery screen appears.

Press the Volume down key to scroll to Wipe data/factory reset.

With Wipe data/factory reset highlighted, press the Power key.

Press the Volume down key to scroll to Userdata only, then press the Power key.

Once the wipe is complete, with Reboot system now highlighted, press the Power key.

The device will restart.

The device is now reset and ready for use. from here.

If that still will not resolve the issue, you most likely need a new display assembly since that is where the "ghost touch" usually originates from.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I use it too,found a solution yet

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

it did not solve the prblem so it might be the "ghost touch" error. but the advice was really helpful. thank you

I had the same problem and realized it was only happening when the phone was plugged into the charger. I have heard them called "turbo" chargers but don't know if that is the case. It does not do it when plugged into my car phone jack. Remove the charger before you start working on the phone and it does not happen!

Thanks! My iPad was plugged into the car charger, And I didn’t know why there were random buttons were being pressed when I wasn’t pressing them, This really helped!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Mine does the opposite, when plugged in to power the ghost typing stops and everything is perfect...it's worse when using FB...so annoying

I had the same problem. All I did to fix it was hold down my power button and press restart after that I didn't have anymore problems. It happened after my mom hit a bear (were all safe) I started having issues with my phone but I did that and it worked again

If this doesn't help with your problem then try reading the other comments and sorry if it's not useful.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Well what I did is turn my phone off and on and it Stopped see if this helps!

Did you try giving it a light twist, sometimes the screen gets bent, so giving a __very light twist__ can fix this.

iPhones and some other phones have touch sensors placed near the charging ports. If your phone acts up when charging it means the energy is messing with the touch sensors. Unfortunately this means you need a new phone.

I suggest trying a phone cover that covers, or just covers the edges of the screen. My moto E7 does this alot too, even automatically saying going to a Facebook event and typing random letters, opening apps etc.

Also try typing with fingers away from screen bottom edge, it seems to help, but may increase chance of phone dropping from hands.

If not I'd say a new screen or phone if your phone was cheapish is the best solution. Funny thing is this is my third phone with this issue (all different models and more expensive models) it may be an actual ghost or computer flaw. Weird stuff.
