Where is this rubber thing supposed to go?

While I was replacing the iPhone 6s Plus Lightning and Headphone cable a little rubber thing showed up as I removed the Headphone assembly from the phone. I figured out that it came from the headphone jack, but I don’t know where to put it back.

Does anybody know?

I don't know what it is, but I can tell you it is a waterproofing gasket of some sort.

its supposed to thread down on the new AUX port.

Its not 100% necessary to have, but thats where its going to be.

Where exactly is it supposed to go on the AUX port? Which way?

It should match up with the iPhone housing headphone port hole, you can experiment which way it sits against the housing.

That is the gasket that fits over the end of the headphone jack. To put that back on you will have to go through the procedure to replace the lightning connector assembly which includes on it the headphone jack and two microphones.
