If your machine is maxed out spec wise. It is always a good idea to de-install any programs you don't use regularly. Software sitting within the library, can be buggy. Background processing slows everything down. The bigger your system folder the slower your computer will run.
It is best to use software to make sure it deletes associated system files. I use cleanmymac. There are others out there.
Another thing people overlook. Is having folders of thousands of files on the desktop. Use aliases & file the folders within the documents or on external drives. It really works, honestly.
