Cinema Display Shows Block of Discolored Pixels

Hi,

I have a refurbished 27" Apple LED Cinema Display that I bought from Apple in 2014. It was perfect until yesterday when it randomly showed a vertical block of pixels near the middle of the screen with some form of discoloration. I made sure the graphic card is not the suspect here by trying another display as well as using the same display on a different Mac. The problem persists, so it's something in the display.

What surprises me is the fact that these are not dead pixels; they are dynamically changing color, and can clearly be seen kind of flashing. Also, this morning I woke up my Mac to find that the display went back to behaving normally.

However, a few hours later, it started doing the same thing, with different colors. Sound is working fine.

What is the cause of the problem? And is it worth fixing?

I also attached pictures of the problem when it happened the first time.

Hi,

It looks like a damaged cable in the LCD, so switching the LCD would probably fix it. unfortunately those are pretty expensive, so it is probably not worth it, unless you can buy a broken LED cinema display that has a good lcd.

Hi Rick, thanks for your reply!

I found a few displays with a missing case on eBay, and they sell around $100-300. It looks like they have working LCD panels. But I am inexperienced in this and I don't know exactly what to look for.

Do you have any recommendations? I mean, are there any keywords you suggest I use when searching for the part I need?

@archusain

@archusain do a search by the label on the back of your panel. that way you know that you will get an identical panel as needed for your monitor
