Can I replace my Mid 2012 logic board with a early 2011 one?

I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro A1278 with i5 2.5 GHz that needs a logic board replacement. Am I able to replace it with an early 2011 Macbook Pro A1278 with 2.3 GHz i5 logic board?

As it turns out you can!

But before you go that direction you'll loose the faster CPU & RAM (the RAM is different). And the USB ports are only USB2 vs the faster USB3

Why are you going this way?
