The USB ports are soldered to the board and unless there is physical damage to the USB ports I would not bother replacing them. Sony was nice enough to use proprietary ports that are on their motherboard so purchasing replacement ones from Digi-Key is not an option. Instead, obtaining another motherboard from a broken PS3 would be the best option if you do want to replace the ports. If you have never soldered before and the USB ports are your only problem, then I recommend that you strive to find someone who is experienced with that. Replacing the motherboard all together is a bad idea as well since the Blu-Ray drive and motherboard are married together and must be paired, and spoofing the drive to match the motherboard is not something I have seen done on a PS3 yet.
