Will iPhone 7 keep it's water resistance after repair?

I cracked the camera lens on my iPhone 7. The crack is noticeable with direct sunlight. In order to replace the camera lens iPhone needs to be disassembled. I am wondering if the iPhone 7 will loose its water resistance after?

The question to ask your local technician would be...."Do you replace the adhesive strips on the display assembly when you are putting the phone back together?" If they do, the phone should keep its water resistance. If they don't, then No that iPhone 7 will no longer be water resistant. I feel this is going to be a huge issue when the iPhone 7 starts being repaired by third parties.

adhesive strips can be changed, more important to ask for warranty against water intrusion on repair.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I highly doubt anyone is going to warranty water intrusion, would you? There's a reason Apple is not calling their waterproof iPhone 7 what it is, waterproof.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I don't think there is any phone company warranting water resistant phones under liquid damage. There's no reason for them to.

iPhone 7 display sealing adhesive is already available on Chinese sites. If you clean the old adhesive off using alcohol and apply the new one correctly, the screen will still be waterproof.

Can't say about the camera because it is sealed differently. If you push the camera internal bezel off, you will have a hard time locating new parts since they came welded onto the casing. The lens is glued onto the bezel, you have to make sure the bezel and the lens are also sealed.

After repairing everything, there is a simple method to test waterproofness. Tape over the speaker/vent grills on the bottom, take out the sim tray and try to suck air through it using a hand vacuum pump, if the pressure does not leak back into it slowly, it is sealed properly. You will have to find a way to connect the hose to the sim slot and seal it for the test though.

I did notice the adhesive but do not understand the Chinese lenguage to order the part. I am trying to buy an Iphone 7 replacement screen, adhesive + repair tools. Do you know howmutch this is totally going to cost me ... can you guide me so I can order everything I need ? Thanks in advance! Btw I live in the Netherlands.

The adhesive costs almost nothing. The problem is that to buy it from outside of China will cost you big time on shipping. Also if you plan to buy replacement screens, make sure the earpiece speaker/top microphone hole came with waterproof grills fully preinstalled. I'm sure most suppliers don't do that and I haven't located all the parts required and the correct way to assemble them to make sure the hole is still waterproof.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

about that test doesn't seem very reliable as the waterproof sealing let the air go trough and not the water, otherwise speakers and microphone wouldn't work, also suck or pump air into the phone will means damage speakers as if put under pressure could ruin the membrane they are made of!!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Regarding the method of using air, the iphone 7 has a baffle to equalise pressure inside the phone. So is this test accurate?

Mariuz, If repair is made by a good Technician to factory standards or better phone should be fine, although there is always a chance not. Take iphone in for diagnoses, estimate for repair and ask of warranty. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

The iPhone 7 has special water resisting gaskets put into place. Removing them can lessen the water resistance. You should replace them as they originally were to the best of your ability.

Another option is to go the AppleCare route. The Verge posted an article a month ago, saying that Apple had dropped the price on iPhone 7 repairs by a significant amount relative to the 6/6S. It may make a factory repair cost-competitive compared to third-party or DIY. And at least an in-house repair makes Apple responsible for ensuring that the device is still waterproof afterwards.

Apple quietly made it cheaper to replace a cracked iPhone screen
