My 95yo mum can't hear callers very well or not at all. Brand new Uniden DECT 6.0 replaced faulty Uniden XDECT 6.0

Is there a problem with phone or line connection?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Hi @ Paul Clayton,

What is the model number of the Uniden phone?

I have the issue where the phone crackles and caller cannot hear us. Once we get closer to where the base is and phone connection the caller can hear us. Do I need a phone extender?

@Ourania Haviaridis ,

What is the make and model number of the phone?

Is there only one handset associated with the base or more than one?

If more than one does this happen on all handsets or only the one?

If only one handset have you checked that the battery is fully charged in the handset and if so does the handset battery maintain its' charge reasonably well when on a call or does the charge % drop quickly?

Just wondering if the battery was the problem

jim, Check the volume control on phone, if slider volume control, slide the control up and down quickly several time to get switch contacts to make better connection, make sure volume control is in the high range. To rule out a bad line, try a different phone in same phone jack, if the problem is there with different phone the line is faulty. If the phone is older or has been dropped a few time chances are something inside the phone has been damaged,corroded,dirty, you could dismantle phone and look for broken solder connections, wires off, etc. and try and make a repair or just replace the equipment(phone) if line/jack is found to be OK.

Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hi @timmycha ,

What is the model number of your phone?

Does your phone have a loudspeaker (hands free) option?

If so can you hear the other other person when using the phone in this mode?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jayeff thanks for getting back to me. The model is VTech 17450 CareLine DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with VSMART (Twin Pack).

We can hear them but they can't hear us. We have to walk all the way down the hallway towards the base unit where the phone line is.

Loudspeaker doesn't change things for the person on the phone.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jayeff i am thinking i may need an extender but don't want to fork out the money for it and don't recall we had this issue from the beginning so something may have changed.

@Ourania Haviaridis ,

Given the model info you provided (thanks for that) there are two handsets associated with the base station, is this correct?

Just trying to narrow it down with all the following questions.

Does the problem occur when using either handset?

If the problem only occurs with the one handset and not the other it may be a battery problem, especially if the “problem” handset is used more often. Try swapping the batteries between the two handsets and check. You’ll probably have to re-register the handsets after removing / replacing the battery but not sure on this. How old are the phones (or the batteries if not originals)?

When the base station is transmitting to the handset, it gets its' power from the mains power supply. The handset relies on battery power and it takes more power to transmit a signal to the base station than to receive from the base station.

If it occurs on both handsets, what happens if you move away from the base station approx. the same distance in the other direction (if possible) to the direction in which you are experiencing the problem and use the handset on a call, does it work OK or not?

If it works OK there may be something creating interference to the signal when used in the other direction from the base station.

Looking at the user manual on p.77 it appears that you can check the signal strength of a “device”. Perhaps the handset is also considered a “device”, but I don’t if it is or not for this setting, but maybe worth a look as it would help if it is.

If it does appear in the “Set Device” settings you may be able to check the signal strength of the handsets from various locations and compare the two handset’s signal strength.

I have a VS112-3 landline phone. I tried all of the phones and people can hear me, but I cannot hear anyone. I turned the volume up and down, I put it on speaker, and I took the battery out and put it back in and the same thing happens.
