Can't connect Bluetooth keyboard/ mouse

I replaced hard drive successfully. I dropped my mouse. I then got a new one. I could not connect it. Then my keyboard stopped working. I replaced batteries. I still couldn't connect it. So I bought and installed a USB keyboard/mouse. It works fine but I am not able to do some of the things you can with Apple stuff. I removed the keyboard/mouse from Bluetooth items that are paired, but still no luck. Does any one have an answer?Thanks in advance.
