Is this temperature safe?

Hello, I have a Macbook Pro 13inch 2010 model with nvidia 320m and core 2 duo. I downloaded smc control and temperatures are way higher than the unibody 2010mid model that I have. It idles at 57-65 and in safari 72-84~ and fans are starting to get really noisy. Laptop doesn't have any dust and has reapplied thermal paste. My white unibody 2010mid idles at 29, so this is a huge difference, is there any solutions on how to fix it? (plz no answers "take it to apple store or whatever")

When you tore it down did you see any oil type looking residue on the logic board?

Yes, thats high! I would suspect you have one or more problems here within the cooling system:

  • The system is dusty and/or heat sink fins are clogged with dust
  • Fan is bad or the blades are dirty
  • The heatsink has lost its fluid, needs to be replaced
  • The thermal paste is old, bad or not put on correctly

I would recommend a better app here to monitor things: TG Pro. The full version offers a very good diagnoses function and gives a more discreet view of the sensors and fans. It's our standard app for our systems.

Of course you could still visit an Apple Store ;-}
