Why can't I enter the password?

The computer will turn on but when I need to enter the password, I can't. The mouse works fine on another computer

With the details that you gave us, we really cannot help. Is it just the mouse that doesn't work? If you can switch it to another computer, you are obviously using an external mouse. Can you just use the touch pad to get into your computer to start with?

Sounds like you laptop booted without peripherals. Shut it down and boot it again . See if that helps .You may want to boot it without anything connected to USB ports till after it has completely booted.
