New laptop is slow/unhappy with laptop's performance

Acer aspire es1-512

New Acer Laptop with Windows 10. I've downloaded all available updates and disabled any obvious processes running which I don't need. However, I'm still disappointed with the start up time and slow load time of programs. Is there anything I can do? I’ve never used Windows 10 before, not sure if it’s a resource hog compared to Win 7 or not. I have Intel N2840 CPU and 4 gig RAM.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The Intel N2840 processor is very simply a low powered budget CPU. You will not get great performance from it. An SSD will somewhat help speed up loading . You don't say how much RAM you have but the single stick can be removed and replaced by an 8GB one.

Blocking Microsoft's telemetry software could help a little. Making sure W10 is updated also helps some. Run Windows Update. Updating drivers helps. I use IOBit's Drive Booster free version.

It is nothing to do with Acer it is the Intel processor. I have the ES1-411 which is even slower. We use it for travel as it is very thin and light weight. For heavy duty use I use an HP business laptop which is very fast and built like tank.

Windows 10 actually is faster than the other versions of Windows. It works much better with the hardware. I have W10 running very nicely on a 12 year old HP desktop with a single core AMD Athlon processor.

Good luck.

Hi,

If your laptop is running more slowly than usual or has become increasingly slow over the past several weeks or months, see the Acer Aspire 5253 Is Running Slowly problem page for possible problems and solutions.

Just a few suggestions.

1. Have you checked that 'fast startup' is enabled?

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-...

2. Have you checked in Task Manager/ Startup to see what programs are loaded on boot?

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/window...

3. Have you turned off (the ones you don't want) Windows live tiles to stop them 'updating' unnecessarily. It cuts into your download as well as using the CPU.

http://www.howtogeek.com/223254/how-to-a...

4. Have you turned off Windows Defender if you have another AV installed?

5. Have you disabled any unnecessary 'bloatware' installed by Acer?

6. There was a BIOS Version update to Ver.1.15 dated 13/08/2015 which simply says "Improve System Performance' You may wish to check your BIOS version. Here is a link to download the update http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/dri... select BIOS/Firmware tab

hi Jayeff,

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have 1.15 bios and Defender already turned off. Fast start already enabled, but this must be a misnomer, it doesnt seem very fast to me.

#3 Is one thing I haven't done, so I'll check into that.

If you can think of any other tricks specific to Win 10, let me know.

Hi,

The only thing that quickly comes to mind is to 'disable' fast start up (I know it sounds counter-intuitive) and turn off your laptop in the normal way (Do not use the restart option this one time) . Then turn it on. Hopefully it will be faster. Have read and also heard that this worked and when fast start was re-enabled the boot time sluggishness had disappeared. It somehow seemed to 'reset' the fast startup mode.

I had a similar problem with my new acer, I went to the microsoft storeapp and found a lot of the pre-installed apps had been downloading/updating so I went to settings>system>apps and uninstalled a bunch of them. Restarted the laptop and no problem!

I have the same problem as you. My Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 10 operating system is running very slow. In addition, it takes a long time to start up. Sometimes it becomes sluggish and unresponsive and when I use it It is very annoying. Actually, the reasons to cause this situation can ve various. You can check this problem from the below several aspects:

  1. Does your computer get infected with a virus or malware?
  2. — Scan and troubleshoot virus or malware.
  3. Do you install too many apps on your computer?
  4. — Uninstall useless and unnecessary applications.
  5. Is your hard drive going to be full and no enough disk space?
  6. — Clean up your hard drive to free up more disk space.
  7. Do you enable too many startup programs on your computer?
  8. — Disable some unwanted startup programs.
  9. Are there lots of junk files left on your computer and you never clear them?
  10. — Clean up junk files on your computer regularly.

What I mentioned above is just a few possible reasons for this issue of your Acer Aspire computer. To improve your computer performance and speed up the boot time of your computer, here is a relative link for you: https://www.isunshare.com/computer/solve.... With all the information, your problem may get resolved. However, if you still cannot solve your problem with all the suggestions, maybe you can ask the after-sale service offered by Acer.

My 7 month old acer swift 3 is extremely slow and I'm obviously not happy with it. I always consume a minimum of 2 hrs per day waiting for apps to load every time I open a single one of 'em. This is very frustrating! I only open a maximum of two windows but it just won' t run faster! My drive aint full, I disabled unnecessary app for automatic updates, it's not affected with virus, and not even old! I don't know wth is wrong with this, I am purely disappointed with Acer.
