My laptop doesn't turn on when it's not plugged in

Hello, I just got this laptop a couple of days ago, and I noticed when it's not plugged in it freezes. It shows up the Asus logo then displays a command prompt with something like "Error: Device not plugged in" or something for half a second then the screen remains on with a black background. It keeps doing that until I reset it by pressing the power button+volume down for a couple of seconds. I don't think it does this when it is plugged in. After I reset it, it works fine. Just the first time I turn it on while not being plugged in does this.
