Why can't I change where the air comes out for my heater?

When I change the position of the rotary switch to change where the air comes out for my heater or air conditioner it doesn't do anything. What can be the problem? Is this controlled by electricity or vacuum? Oh BTW, this is on a 2001 Toyota Tacoma.

Where the air comes out on a 2001 Tacoma (I own one) is controlled by small electric motors, attached to the doors that direct the air. For testing info, you might try one of the Toyota truck forums, such as Toyota Nation or Tacoma Forums.
