Phone is on, but the screen doesn´t work?

Hi.

I have an iPhone 5 in for a repair. When the customer came with the phone, the phone is on, but the screen doesn´t work... So I tried a new screen, but the same problem. Tried to unplug the battery and so on but nothing. Tried many different screens.

So, the phone is probably broken? But i would like to know what the problem might be, and what causes it.

-Alex

Could you check if either

1. you don't have backlight but you do have image or

2. you don't have image bu do have a backlight

Neither image or backlight. The screen is totally dead :p

Has the phone been repaired before? Did it come in after he tried to repair it himself or he just dropped it and stopped working? water damage? any other piece of information would be helpful to try to get to a conclusion of what the problem is/was

Do belive the screen and back camera has been replaced before..

No water damage... The phone just "died" suddenly tho (a month or so after the camera was replaced)

Logic board is most likely the culprit, I'd say. I'd guess the portion responsible for the display is desoldered or just bad. Back up to iTunes and replace the board then setup from back up (if customer wants to spend that much, probably same price to buy a newer used model off of CL.

Double check its not a backlight issue. It is hard on iphones to see if backlight is good or not. The easiest way is when the phone just comes on because you can see the apple logo or once it has come on keep pressed down the power button like if you were to power device off. Look for the big x in the white circle towards the bottom for the cancel option. This can be caused by a replacement screen not having the backlight connection in the screen assembly taped exposing the three solder points. If that is not the case evaluate the digitizer and lcd connectors to make sure they are not missing any pins, bent, partially broken... Let us know what you find out!
