Is new HDD compatible with optical bay?

I have recently ordered an optical drive from ifixit EU store, and a Western Digital HDD from Amazon (wd7500bpkx)

Was browsing the site and saw that the recommendation for said Optical drive was a Seagate. Will my wd7500bpkx be compatible? Is there a guide for formatting it?

Here is some more info on the drive:

Any info much appreciated, like John Snow I know nothing!

The WD drive is backward compatible to 3.0 Gb/s. Personally I would put the old drive into the optical bay adapter.

Backward? You mean the original 250GB mac drive from 2009 is more advanced?

Excuse me, just looked up "backward compatibility" ;-)

So much to learn.

Thanks for advice _/\_
