Does the Late 2013 21.5 inch iMac display adhesive tape really work?

I am thinking about adding a solid-state drive into my iMac. Does the display adhesive tape that I would use to stick the display back onto the computer really work (would it adhear well enough)? Also, do I need an apple certified solid-state drive (or a solid-state drive that is compatible with the iMac) or would any solid-state drive work? I know zero about computers but I think that I could make this happen on my own. Any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate it. Do I need drivers? I thought, buy a solid-state drive, take the iMac apart, install solid-state drive, put the iMac back together and problem solved. I don't even know what a driver is (again, I know absolutely zero about computers). Does anyone think that I could actually do this successfully? Or should I pay someone to do it. I think I would prefer to do it myself and save some $$$. Thank you.

Yes the adhesive strips work well. But be sure to use the plastic pizza type cutter tools so you don't go to deep. Read through the repair guide three times so you really know what you are getting into before attempting the replacement. This tool may not have existed when the guide was written: iMac Opening Wheel

Only you can decide if you're up to the challenge. I can tell you this: you'll need a variety of tools. Take a look at this iFixit guide, and decide if it's something you want to take on, or have done for you. Best of luck, either way.

Without the proper tools its possible to damage the display so be very careful here!

Please note the Apple SSD blades are still not available with 3rd parties like OWC (Late 2012 SSD). So you're limited on finding a spares or a junker which the part has been salvaged. Be careful as there are some people selling look 'a' likes that just don't work! I would recommend swapping out the HD for a SSHD (Seagate) or a Western Digital Black2 drive to gain the benefits of the SSD but still have a HD for the deeper storage. Both of these drives are 2.5" SATA which will work here.
